Htc is a phone maker that’s not new in the business of phone making. However, the company has been finding it tough despite its beautifully crafted sleek phones. Htc is launching itself as a phone powerhouse with this big vision of changing the way we use the internet.
It has introduced the HTC Exodus 1. Hmmm…hope this time they are matching to the promise land! It is a phone that uses the blockchain technology and integrated into popular cryptocurrencies like Etherium, Bitcoin, Litecoin etc. As a matter of fact, preorders are made using Etherium and Bitcoin starting today.
It comes with a “secure enclave,” which HTC describes as a “locked area on the device that is protected from the Android OS.” The company says this is where you hold your cryptocurrency private keys; ideally, even if your phone’s security gets compromised in some ways, the private keys in the secure enclave should remain safe. The company says that secure enclave is not a separate chip, that instead, it utilizes ARM’s TrustZone tech, which is typically used for payment, authentication and content protection.
The phone has an interesting way of retrieving your private keys even if your phone is lost or stolen. It involves picking a few trustworthy contacts, each of whom must download an app. Then, your private key’s seed is split using a secret sharing algorithm, with each part sent to your contacts. None of them can retrieve the key on their own, but you can retrieve the key by combining all the parts.
HTC will release APIs for third-party developers to create apps that work with the Exodus 1 hardware. The phone will also come with pre-installed, blockchain-related apps.
HTC stands by the following convictions:
